Lawrence Humane Pet of the Week: Adoption fees are waived for these dogs, cats looking for loving homes

The Lawrence Humane Society is hosting a special event to help more animals find their forever homes. During Clear the Shelter weekend, adoption fees for many pets will be waived. This special event runs from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, August 28, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 30. Adopters on Saturday will receive free leashes, dog collars, and cat carriers. All adopters will receive a New Pet Parent Kit, including a sample bag of Hill’s Science Diet food. Five pets with waived adoption fees include Bwita, a 6-year-old tabby domestic shorthair who enjoys cuddling and playing; Karma, a 6-year-old pit bull terrier mix who loves hot dogs, tennis balls, hiking, and swimming; Bailey, a 4-year-old pit bull terrier who enjoys car rides and sunbathing; Cinder, a 5-year-old mixed terrier and bulldog who is kennel-trained and enjoys treats; and Stella, a 2-year-old Australian cattle dog and pit bull terrier who loves outdoor exploration and treats. The shelter is open to potential adopters from noon to 6 p.m. every day at 1805 E. 19th St. People can also sign up for the Mass Street Mutts program to get to know a dog before adopting.
