Local shelters waive adoption fees, other specials during Clear the Shelters month

During Clear the Shelters month, several animal shelters in Southwest Virginia are waiving adoption fees and hosting special events to encourage pet adoptions. The Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP) is waiving adoption fees through the end of August. They hosted a special event called 'Fursday Thursday' on August 27 and have another adoption event scheduled for August 29. One of the dogs available for adoption is Nixie, a loving dog seeking a forever home.

Angels of Assisi is also participating with an extended adoption special through the weekend. The Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center is waiving adoption fees during special events on August 28-29. Huckleberry, an energetic and affectionate dog, is among those available for adoption.

The Lynchburg Humane Society is reducing adoption fees for cats and kittens to $50 and offering half-off fees for dogs and puppies. They have a special adoption event planned for the final weekend of Clear the Shelters. One of the dogs available is Red, a three-year-old white pit bull mix. Clear the Shelters is a nationwide campaign running through August 31, aimed at increasing pet adoptions and donations.
