These 10 Dogs In Essex County Urgently Need A Home Before Deadline, Shelter Says

The Associated Humane Societies-Newark, one of New Jersey's largest animal shelters, has issued an urgent call for homes for 14 dogs by August 12. While four dogs—Waffles, Peach, Magnolia, and Django—have already found new homes or are awaiting pickup, 10 dogs remain in need of adoption or rescue placement. The shelter is located at 124 Evergreen Avenue in Newark and is open daily from noon to 5 p.m. for in-person meet and greets. Interested adopters should bring all household members, including other pets, for the adoption process.

Among the dogs available for adoption are Winnie, a 2.5-year-old who has shown signs of dog reactivity; Sadie, a 2-year-old who may need to be the only pet due to a past scuffle; Coco, a 1.5-year-old with leash biting issues; Lady, a 3-year-old who had a bite incident; and Remy, a 5-year-old who may do best as an only dog.

For rescue-only placements, there is Leonardo, a 2.5-year-old with unpredictable behavior; Biggie, a 1-year-old Malinois mix with leash biting issues; Maserati, a 6-year-old needing surgery and rehabilitation; Callie, a 1-year-old who needs structure and training; and Oszo, a 1.5-year-old who has had difficulty adjusting to shelter life.
